A New Chat Moderation System at GamePoint
While the vast majority of the time, playing at GamePoint and chatting with the community is a positive experience, there are players that exhibit inappropriate behavior and language in chat. These players and how they have been addressed until now have been a very big concern to the GamePoint community, with good reason. So because some players can forget to apply decency and manners while playing online, GamePoint now employs an automated system that will detect inappropriate behavior from all players and take action. This approach encourages players to positively adapt their own behavior and language.

This system comes with the following features:

  • Inappropriate behavior is automatically and immediately detected
  • Players exhibiting inappropriate behavior are automatically warned and sanctioned by the system
  • Repeat offenders will receive harsher sanctions
  • The system applies to all players equally and objectively
  • Players will see exactly what text led to the warning or sanction
  • All public chat channels are monitored 24 hours a day

We also advise you to block players behaving inappropriately by clicking their name in chat (public or private) or in the roomlist and selecting 'Block Player'. While these players continue any inappropriate behavior, the system will automatically continue to work. The system is enabled as of today and working in all rooms. We look forward to inappropriate behavior becoming a thing of the past. Please leave any comments or questions below, we'll be happy to respond.

i think its good some people are just mean and really pick on people bad. i always feel sorry for that person right or wrong being ganged up on is very hurtful to anyone it should be done to the so they could know how it feels, thank you

The system also takes the burden off players for reporting. Because it's definitely been the case that players have not faced any consequences because they were not reported or the text wasn't seen (like within a game). But now with the system catching all public channels, they'll be caught! So now if you come across these kinds of people, you can block and rest assured that they'll face consequences automatically.

My question is, will your automated system, be able to address acronyms ?

Many players use acronyms ...

As an example ... This is one players constant, approach to others winning ...

POS = piece of shit
WAFP = what a F'ken pig

AND the ever popular ---> fugp ... GP, can figure that one, out for themselves

These, are just as bad AND so very, very childish ...

The system is designed to address not just words, but context. So if the context is inappropriate (meaning even without spelling out specific inappropriate words), the system will indeed catch them. And we as spend more time with this system, it'll adapt to changing language used in inappropriate behavior as well.

In a nutshell, yes.

is the system going to pick up on people that gang up on people and cyber bully this is a huge problem in card party in the crus room im sick of it its only a a few but they always do it and nothing happens to them i don't even chat in the room and leave card party once they show up in the chat because they do is drama and call me names

Responding to both your comments here;

Bullying is included, since it's a big part of inappropriate behavior. Remember, it's not just one or two words that are being filtered (at the moment, just because it's not starred, doesn't mean it's not caught), it's overall behavior that's being targeted.

And yes, you're still welcome to report. We're already seeing that the majority of reports being made have already been handled automatically by the system. But having the reports either way helps us further adapt and evolve the system to target even better.

Well, I just hope this helps to stop the bullying that goes on at gp every day. I hope it stops the backstabbing that occurs at gp every day. And, I hope it just starts people showing each other respect, and treating others, as they would like to be treated...and not to judge others, but to just enjoy the games. I know so many people who have left gp, over the past 4 years I have been here, just because someone either talked behind their backs, or were just plain mean, and I just hope this will stop people from leaving, and that it will make people want to stay ], and to enjoy the games, which I thought was the idea of gamepoint, in the first place. :)

The idea behind the system is having people adjust their own behavior. So when a player exhibits bullying (part of inappropriate behavior that the system aims to detect) and continues this behavior, the system logs this and then sends that player a warning. This warning will include the exact text that was caught, and this is done universally for ALL players in ALL public channels. So a player cannot backtrack and claim that they were being unfairly targeted or that it's taken out of context. Thus once they see that warning, they realize that it's time to stop. If they keep going though, naturally the system will start sanctioning and multiply that sanction based on their frequency.

How long are these inappropriate players sanctioned for though is the main question? And what about the ones that repeatively keep coming back? Are or do you have a ban in the works for them or is it just a silence sanction?

If a player continues their behavior after a warning, then they will receive a silence. If they keep going, the silence gets longer. Then when that doesn't work for repeat offenders, the system will indeed start bans rather than silence.

The idea is that we give players a chance to adjust their own behavior. But should they refuse, then naturally the consequences will rise.

So glad you're doing sumthing about this problem, i play in battle solitaire and the amount of bullying and badmouthing in there is appalling!!

I have been sanctioned today

I dont believe i done anything wrong however one time might have annoyed the system.

In a card party game with my frineds..no outsiders we were having a laugh about a part of the male body that I amsure i do not need to repeat. LOL Whos to say we were not talking about male chickens?!?

Then today I am a newbie in the Solitare lobby, thanks to the update, and I mentioned it was "bit ch y" in here, which come on i have never ever seen such bad manner and poors behaviour before. I was dumbstruck the attitude in there. There we go ..Pop up...naughty me!!

So those two events got me sanctioned, which i feel is a little extreme. I know this is automated but if nonone reported me in the first pace u should not start the process. But now a good member of GP is now scared of the next sanction cause all i have to do is one stray word and next is 10 mins slience.

Is there a way u can have these sanctions removed? Do they go away after a period of time?

I am all for this system it is needed. But dont annoy the good ones in the process. And yes I consider myself good :-)

I was also sanctioned for using the initials for my friend. smh I have another sanction for talking english in a german room. I wasn't saying anything bad, but ppl in that room who were german did not want an english person in the room because I was winning so they reported me. :( Little harsh and yet I still see extremely rude behavior.

I have to say as a former host on GP that while this is probably very helpful, its becoming rather annoying. I was silenced for joking around with friends, there was no bad intention. One of my good friends is silenced as we speak for a week for a few typos and a song that she posted in the lobby chat, which was by no means meant to be insulting or inappropriate. I have tried to speak directly to a member of GP office about this for a week now and I never get a response. I see what you guys are trying to do and I appreciate it but it's a bit too strict, and quite frankly, it is sucking the fun out of being on gp as a player. for example tonight... I said "kung foo kicked" (not inappropriate at all), and it starred out. How is it right that people are getting silences for things that are not intentionally wrong? It's very unfair, and you have a lot of unhappy players here now. I don't think this is a horrible idea, but I do feel it needs to be adjusted so that it's at the very least fair.

I would also like to add that a lot of us pay for memberships and coins on this site. This makes us not only players on gp, but we are customers... I know if I end up silenced for making a typo or for slipping, I am not going to want to renew my VIP, I won't buy coins when I run out again.
